Eva Pel lives and works in Amsterdam. With a background in urban geography and artistic research she uses different discipline to explore the role and position of the public and private realm. She describes her work as a blend between political engagement and subtle mediation. In it she is interested in how behavior is socially affected and changed in the course of everyday life.
Observations, sculptural interventions and photographic research have been methods for her to explore subjects such as the contemporary meaning of historic representation – in which Pel emphasized the idea that identity and tradition are not limited to physical borders. Using a subtle, almost anonymous approach, Pel addresses the functions of (unnoticeable) structures within modern day society, build environment and infrastructure. Here she does not aim to take a position that dictates what is morally right, but rather encompasses a peculiar curiosity for human behavior.
